This is One Thing: Volume 50
A healthy recipe for those with a sweet tooth, £52 fish and chips, and a trashy dating show full of sexy singles and shockingly large age gaps.
Welcome back to One Thing, a weekly newsletter that highlights the must-haves of the week across shopping, beauty, tv, restaurants, music, & more. If you read One Thing this week, make it this.
Well everyone, we’ve made it to the cusp of spring, and with it comes that awkward time of year when morning sunlight gives way to afternoon showers, you’re swallowing boatloads of pollen every time you step out of the house, and every Brit around you won’t stop moaning about their hay fever.
It’s also a confusing time in retail, when you no longer want to pull the trigger on discounted Khaite cashmere in the NAP sale, but it still feels a bit too early to start shopping summer sets à la Posse. This time of year is best spent sorting through your existing spring/summer wardrobe and identifying any gaps, or items poised for donation if you can’t remember the last time you wore them or packed them for a holiday. Once you’ve tidied your closet, and shed that last bit of baby weight, speaking for myself here, you can finally pull the trigger on those lacey shorts and capri pants, two trends you could not partake in last summer when you were nine months pregnant. I may have had a swollen-girl summer last year, but summer 2026 is game over for you bitches.

Corenucopia by Clare Smyth
I know it’s quite blasphemous to say, but fish and chips just isn’t my thing. I find cod a bit bland, peas an inferior green veg, and honestly I’d rather have a fresh baguette with butter than a mound of salted chips. However, if all fish and chips were served by Clare Smyth, you would find me to be its biggest fan. Corenucopia by Clare Smyth is the latest venture from the legendary chef, you guessed it, Clare Smyth. While her OG restaurant, Core by Clare Smyth, is an exquisite experience from start to finish, Corenucopia offers a more casual style of dining that is still elegant and full of delicious dishes. Start with the fried chicken and caviar bites, and if you see the steak tartare on a crispy potato with truffle lightly shaved on top as a special, do not hesitate. The main star of the menu is the £52 fish and chips, a breaded Dover sole filled with a lobster mousse that somehow manages to be both decadent and light. Dessert is also not to be skipped. The sticky toffee pudding is excellent, as is the milk soft serve with fresh honeycomb and bee pollen, which my husband declared the “best soft serve” he’d ever had. And this man does not take his desserts lightly. The restaurant is cozy and full of classic Chelsea patrons enjoying a wine-filled Sunday lunch. Within just a few months of being open this restaurant also claimed a Michelin star.

Cuyana Travel Bags
After years of using “free with purchase” make-up and toiletry bags, I finally decided to pull the trigger and invest in a full matching set of travel bags from Cuyana. The brand offers five different sizes perfect whether you take them on a quick weekend away in the Cotswolds or a family holiday to the Caribbean that requires copious amounts of SPF. The bags are 100% leather inside and out, which makes them surprisingly easy to wipe down after a trip, when something inevitably spills. The pebbled texture also ensures they don’t scratch or mark easily, which is key for something that gets tossed into suitcases and carry-ons. While the burgundy colour I chose is no longer available, the bags come in a wide array of shades, whether you prefer a muted beige or a bright cherry red. My only advice for those purchasing from the UK: if possible, ship them to the US and bring them back, as the brand charges an exorbitant amount for UK delivery. Just don’t be surprised if your mom or sister ends up stealing them for herself!
If you watch One Thing:
Age of Attraction
Don’t get me wrong, while I love a cocktail at a posh hotel bar (one of the many perks of living in London) followed by a late dinner, I also enjoy curling up on the sofa and watching people bare it all for a trashy reality dating show on Netflix. I just couldn’t get through the latest, painfully dull season of Love Is Blind (what did we expect? They chose Ohio…), but I felt like I really hit the jackpot with Age of Attraction. The show follows singles “looking for love” (aka more TikTok followers) as they connect without knowing each other’s ages. Netflix did these contestants dirty by casting a wide age range from 22 to 60, and somehow everyone over 40 seems to be some kind of Benjamin Button wizard—are they 38 or 53? Who even knows. If you’re looking for an entertaining watch that will have you chatting shit to your telly and forgetting all about the anxiety of an impending WWIII, look no further!

Serene Scalp Soothing Leave On Treatment by Oribe
Postpartum really is the gift that keeps on giving, or rather the gift that keeps on taking. First came the hair loss around the 12-week mark. Then the plantar fasciitis that made getting out of bed feel like I was walking on literal nails. And finally, the ultra-itchy scalp that, no matter how much water I drank while breastfeeding, I simply could not escape. While I stopped breastfeeding around the six-and-a-half month mark, I still reach for the Serene Scalp Leave-On Treatment from Oribe. Applied after washing your hair, it immediately soothes and calms an angry, irritated scalp. With the particularly harsh water in London and the cold weather that tends to dry everything out, it’s a great product to use every few washes when your scalp needs a bit of extra hydration.
If you bake One Thing:
Flourless Sweet Potato Brownies
You know what does not go hand in hand? Losing the last bit of pregnancy weight and my sweet tooth. Yes, I’ve tried the square of dark chocolate after dinner to satisfy the craving, but I’m sorry, it just doesn’t do the trick. Enter these flourless sweet potato brownies which, hear me out, are both healthy and genuinely delicious. They’re also incredibly easy to make and can be thrown together during a nap cycle. A batch lasts about a week and can be frozen or popped in the fridge, ready to enjoy guilt-free when you curl up on the couch to watch the latest episode of Love Story.
